Your profile:

We are looking for a full time Database Administrator to join our International Ops team in Berlin. You will directly report to our Head of IT Infrastructure and have the chance to contribute to our websites’ success managing, implementing and optimizing our database performance.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Install and configure database servers and services
  • Develop, install, and maintain processes for optimizing database performance, access and reliability
  • Manage database access rights and secure the systems that provide access
  • Perform performance and reliability tuning of database systems
  • Full remote lifecycle management of persistent database applications
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors and work with teams to address solutions
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards
  • Manage automation for repeating database tasks
  • Available for on-call support (in rotation)

Qualities we are looking for:

  • 4+ years of experience in database administration, database architecture, or a related field or Masters Degree in computer science (or a related field)
  • Solid references and personal recommendations
  • 3+ years experience with Linux and MySQL
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL and SQL server tools
  • Extensive knowledge of database security, backup+recovery, and performance monitoring
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modelling
  • Understanding of data normalization and denormalization
  • Linux shell (or language of choice) scripting
  • Familiarity with version control (git) and comfort with a version-controlled workflow
  • Extensive mathematical and statistical knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail

It would be a plus if you have:

  • Experience with cloud database services (AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP)
  • Deep knowledge of other database platforms (PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc)
  • Development experience (PHP, JS, Go, Python, etc)
  • Deep knowledge of 12factor application design approach
  • Extensive knowledge of containerization and application segmentation techniques
